Elaine Close

Elaine Close is an artist based in Portland Oregon. 

Elaine works in mixed media, predominantly oil paint on wood and paper. In addition to larger paintings, for about 18 years, she has been working on a series of tiny paintings. The smallest of these measures 1.5 x 1.5 inches. They are made from mixed media including graphite, colored pencil, pastel, acrylic, oil, watercolor, blood, and collage.

The Wee Galleries is an installation of 5 doll houses turned into galleries to display 71 of Elaine’s smallest paintings. The oldest painting in the Wee Galleries was made in 2001 and the newest was finished in late 2018. The largest piece is 5 x 5.5 inches.
